Overview

The Goal

The challenge

It was imperative to swiftly integrate with the team and establish a vision for the product's visual style. Afterwards, consistently refine and evolve the product
Improvement and development of a startup product that includes numerous design elements, connections between tools, and user behaviors.

Begining

My initial task was to thoroughly explore the product, identifying its strengths and weaknesses as well as its advantages and differences from competitors. Through close collaboration with the project manager and founders, we were able to accelerate the adaptation process and establish plans for the product's development, including stages and goals for the team to work towards.
I joined the product team after the project had undergone a significant transformation, including changes to its structure, logic, and concept. As a result, the product required a new visual style to effectively convey its main ideas and principles.
First of all, I started developing a new logo and identity.
The product's main concept was to organize various types of data, such as videos, text, images, links, and files, into a structured stack or document. This document could be easily shared with others through a link.

The idea was inspired by the balance and equilibrium of stone pyramids, where each layer or stone is unique but contributes to the overall stability of the structure. This concept was used as the basis for the logo design.

Product structure

The product consists of three components: the corporate website (Website), the control panel (Dashboard), and the interface of the whiteboard (Whiteboard) itself.

Website

I began designing the website based on previous user research and metrics. I quickly created a prototype of the homepage and iterated on its visual design.

After multiple revisions, the homepage design was updated.
The website's information architecture has been revamped and modernized. While the number of pages has been decreased, the amount of valuable content available to the user has significantly increased.
Then I proceeded to update all the remaining pages on the website.

Dashboard

The control panel screens were redesigned in the next stage, primarily to manage user boards and account efficiently. Through the control panel, users can create new boards, modify and customize them, and invite or remove participants for seamless collaboration.
First, the control panel prototypes for the desktop version were assembled and subjected to extensive testing to ensure their quality and efficiency.
The next stage was preparing prototypes of the mobile version. Changes made during the creation of these prototypes impacted the logic of user interaction across all platforms.

Whiteboard

A vital aspect of this process was developing rules for implementing the new design with existing and future tools. All these tools coexisted in a common environment where they also had the capability interact with each other, making the task more complex. Therefore, it was essential to sort out the logic of their interaction up to the color schemes.
The interface of the whiteboard was the most challenging and time-consuming stage. There was a need to completely update the board interface, rework some tools, and enhance the user interaction with the product.
First of all, I updated the appearance of the control elements. Then I improved the design of all the working tools of the product on the board.

Icons

For the project, new and improved icons have been created that blend beautifully with the overall style.

Design system

As a startup, we often had to switch between tasks and adjust the product development direction. Incorporating a new tool or functionality often resulted in a series of changes in the finished design. When the project didn't have a stable architecture, we decided not to waste time creating a scalable design system.
As an alternative, I created its minimal essence to simplify the work and speed up the design testing.

Animation

During the project, tasks relating to product promotion were assigned, one of which was to create a presentation video within a tight deadline. I created two short animations for the future video.

The second concept

At a certain point in time, a new design option was proposed for the product interface which changed the user's interaction logic with the product significantly while leaving its visual aspect almost untouched. Due to this, we were able to quickly introduce the new version for testing purposes.

Dark theme

An additional step was taken to implement a dark version of the interface which led to a complete overhaul of the colour scheme of the tools. There were also minor changes made to the interface that improved its overall usability and visual appeal.
